The Mt. Vernon Outland Airport will be the back drop of Balloons Over Mt. Vernon and Fly-in. The event will host over 15 hot air balloons including a 140 foot Shark balloon that goes by “Sharky” taking flight October 16, 17, and 18, 2015. This is the third year for the event.

This year we will be featuring all aspects and types of aviation and Veterans Reunion.

The event will kick off at the Mt. Vernon Outland Airport where the gates will open for the United Way Balloon Glow presented by Flo Gas Propane Services. There will be a tether balloon offering paid rides, War birds, VIP seating sponsored by the RARE Chophouse, sponsor booths, United Way agencies family activities, vendors, crafters, inflatables, the 501st Legion will make an appearance, and much more family fun.

Saturday will feature the US Bank Duck Drop. This will be a show you won’t want to miss with the Hot Air Balloons dropping ducks from the balloons at a target near the pond. The tether balloon will be offering paid rides again. There is a wide array of activities to continue the day, United Way Pancake Breakfast, YMCA 5K Run/Walk, Rotary Ping Pong Ball Drop, RC Boats on the Pond, Cruise to the Balloons, EAA Chapter 1155 Young Eagle Rides. Any child 8-17 years of age may take an exploratory flight in a plane.

To further explore aviation be sure to join us for the Tri County Aviation Education Zone where children and adults can experience flight simulators, learn about hot air ballooning, and ask pilots and student pilots about aviation.

We will have our Salute to Veterans in the afternoon which will recognize the brave men and women who have and continue to fight for our freedom.

We will feature the Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing will bringing their P51 Mustang “Red Nose” and offer paid rides. On the flight line will also be WWI Curtis Jenny Biplane, and a PV2 Harpoon. You never know what else might join us for the day…you will want to keep an eye to the sky!

To wrap up the day on Saturday, Crossroads Community Hospital in honor of all cancer survivor and those who were less fortunate will hold a “Survivor Flight”. Five survivors will take to the skies in the hot air balloons to celebrate and remember those who have been less fortunate.

Sunday morning there will be a “Fun” flight from the Airport to finish out the exciting weekend of events.
